Musick - Covered songs

The other day, I was talking to my mom about the bands I liked.
She was going on about how they have no talent because all they can do it cover other peoples music.
The thing I found funny about this, was that the bands she was talking about,
are some of the most amazing bands ever to exist.
Seriously, ever heard of McFly?
My mom will listen to some of the stuff, but the rest she says how they have no originality and can't write their own music.
The funny thing is,
When someone covers a song,
You have to have permission from the original artist/performer/writer.
So obviously, if they think you aren't good enough, they aren't going to hand you the rights to sing the song.
Do you think that the Beatles are going to go out and give random garage bands that can't sing the rights to their biggest hits?
Didn't think so.
So hence, these bands have so god dang talent.
